Your metabolism needs ample amounts of water to keep firing, and your body needs to eliminate waste produced during fat burning. A 2003 study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism showed that drinking about 17 oz of cold water can bump your metabolism for around a 1/2 hour and burn the equivalent of 25 calories--about one teaspoon of sugar.
